Government Contractors Business Forum (GCBF)

The Government Contracting Business Forum (GCBF), established by PDG leadership about 15 years ago, is renowned for aiding established government contractors and consultants across multiple sectors. It aims to enhance their visibility, marketability, and success within the government marketplace. GCBF meetings focus on current and pending developments in government procurement regulations, policies, legislation, contract opportunities, and related best practices. The meetings, which include high-level discussions about new and cutting-edge procurement, contracting, business and legal information, provide the ideal setting for contractors and consultants of all sizes to network with each other and representatives of select agencies.

The ultimate goal of the GCBF is to level the playing field and provide effective networking and educational opportunities to government contractors and subcontractors that do not retain lobbyists. Please be advised that meetings of the GCBF were discontinued prior to the pandemic and will reconvene at the Willis Tower by 2025.

Why has DEI Become So Important?

Not only is DEI the right thing to do, but it also makes good business sense. Many studies have documented the vast benefits of DEI, including its capacity to promote shared experiences; provide broader range of perspectives; understand customers better; increase customer loyalty; receive faster and better solutions; develop larger and better talent pool; improve workplace productivity; increase employee retention; improve business innovation; generate better financial performance; and gain global appeal and improve reputation.

2024 DEI Statistics in the U.S.

Organizations seeking to receive the benefits of DEI should consider these important statistics:

1) Over 20% of women in the workplace have reported a decline in their support which is causing them to consider other employment options.

2) Over 80% of women who have been working remotely do not want to return back to their offices to work.

3) Two in three employees do not believe their employer supports their mental health and believe it impacts their daily productivity.

4) 89% of U.S. companies either have a DEI strategy or plan to implement one.

5) 58% of companies have provided DEI training to their employees, focused on unconscious bias and microaggressions, which has received positive feedback.

Recognition of PDG Leadership for DEI Achievement

The leadership of PDG has received numerous awards, accolades, and recognitions throughout their careers for their strong legal acumen, extensive community engagement and effective diversity advocacy. These acknowledgements were given by some of the top organizations in the U.S., including the U.S. Small Business Administration, National Women of Achievement, National Forum for Black Public Administrators, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, the City of Chicago/Chicago Commission on Human Relations, and Crain’s Chicago Business.

A MESSAGE

FROM THE CEO

Anita Ponder

Chief Executive Officer, General Counsel, and Chief of Diversity

Welcome to the leading boutique legal consultancy of Ponder Diversity Group LLC (PDG), where we are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for government agencies, large corporations and nonprofit organizations. My personal journey in the legal profession is deeply rooted in my upbringing on the south side of Chicago under the tutelage of my remarkable mother, Dr. Gwindelle Wilson Ponder. Her legacy as an award-winning college and high school mathematics professor and community advocate for social justice profoundly influenced my resolve to ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion are more than just ideals; they are the core foundation of our firm’s mission and professional services.

our thoughts on linkedin

THANK YOU SO MUCH. There’s no better time than Thanksgiving to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our dear friends, LinkedIn connections, clients and teaming partners.  We appreciate your faith and confidence in us, as well as your support.

Success is neither a solo effort nor a final destination – it’s a shared and ongoing journey with those who share our values and aspirations for a more equitable and inclusive nation that celebrates our differences, protects our freedoms and promotes equal opportunity for all. Our success is your success.

Our nation has a very rough journey ahead that is becoming more challenging each passing day.  This is the time for us  - to unite with our allies (regardless of their gender, ethnicity or political affiliation), to strategize to further our progress, and to courageously stand up and speak out whenever we can to uplift all marginalized individuals.

As you enjoy this holiday weekend with your family and friends, take advantage of the opportunity to explore your individual and collective social impact going forward. We need all hands on deck right now to continue our journey forward not only for us, but for the next generation. We owe them a better future than we had.

Sending gratitude and inspiration to you and your loved ones for a wonderful, peaceful and productive Thanksgiving. As we celebrate and rest, let’s plan to fight for our future. I’m ready. Are you?

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I join America in mourning the death of arguably the greatest and most versatile pop cultural icon in the entertainment industry within hours (or days) before possibly celebrating the election of the nation’s first Black woman President.  Quincy Jones did it all as a record producer, film composer, multi-genre artist, entertainment executive and humanitarian. A renowned jazz and pop musician, he was also a prolific cross-genre arranger, conductor, record label executive and civil rights advocate.

Quincy was born in Chicago. He is particularly recognized as the producer of the album Thriller, by Michael Jackson, that has sold more than 110 million copies worldwide, more than any other album ever, which made Michael the biggest pop star of all time. Quincy also produced music for Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Ray Charles and many others. He is the producer and conductor of the No.1 charity song “We Are the World”.  He was a successful composer of dozens of film scores, and had numerous chart hits under his own name. He has been nominated for 79 Grammy Awards. He has won 27 Grammy Awards. This is more than any living artist. He has been nominated for 7 Academy Awards. Quincy died at his home in Bel Air, California, surrounded by his family. He was 91 years old.

We love you Quincy and will always honor your exceptional artistry, influence and legacy by continuing to carry the torch of justice to advance equity and the inclusion of Blacks, women and others, not only in the entertainment industry, but throughout our nation in every sector and industry. Your music has touched our lives in so many ways. May you Rest In Peace, in Power our majestic brother and forever inspire us to pursue our dreams, hone our talents and uplift others whenever we can.♥️

A TRIBUTE TO MY MOTHER. Today, on my birthday, I pay special tribute to my beloved mother, Dr. Gwindelle Wilson Ponder, a distinguished mathematics educator and devoted mother of three who inspired my professional and business journey.  Her impact on me, our community and individuals from all walks of life was phenomenal.

Her incredible legacy of integrity, compassion, faith, philanthropy and public service shaped my core values which resonate in our work at Ponder Diversity Group, where we seek to advance social equity, racial justice, and diversity for women and marginalized communities nationwide.

Although my mother passed away several years ago, she inspired me to start my own law firm after working for Chicago Mayor Harold Washington and being a partner at some of the nation’s top law firms as the Director of Government Contracts and Supplier/Workplace Diversity.

Ponder Diversity Group represents government agencies and other organizations that seek to develop and implement legally defensible laws, policies, regulations, legislation and/or programs that advance supplier diversity and workplace diversity.

As I honor and celebrate the legacy of my mother on my birthday, let’s unite as a nation and strive to work together to make it a better place for all. Make sure that your voice is heard and your actions empower others. To whom much is given, much will be required (Luke 12:48).

Thanks mother for your wonderful legacy and incredible impact. Best birthday present ever. 💗💚

INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL…..I am deeply honored to be selected by Crain’s Chicago Business for inclusion in its 2024 Notable Leaders in Accounting, Consulting & Law. Thank you Crain’s Chicago Business for this distinguished honor. I am inspired to continue striving for excellence in the legal profession and making a significant impact in the Chicago community and nationwide. For more information regarding the legal and consulting services of Ponder Diversity Group LLC, please see our new website at www.ponderdiversity.law

DEEPLY HONORED…..I am deeply honored and incredibly grateful to have been elected to the board of the Chicago Foundation for Women (CFW), an amazing organization that embodies leadership, inclusivity and service.

CFW’s commitment to nurturing emerging organizations through leadership development and financial support is vital in building sustainable nonprofit infrastructures. Joining the CFW board is both a humbling and inspiring opportunity, aligning with my business goals and longstanding dedication to advancing the rights and opportunities of women, people of color and others who have been historically marginalized in the workplace and supply chain.

Throughout my legal career, I have been unwavering in my belief that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are absolutely essential to one’s professional and business development, and to our nation’s continued progress. The ongoing political debate surrounding DEI has only deepened my resolve to champion justice, challenge misinformation and work toward leveling the playing field for all, including women, girls and people of color.

As a newly elected CFW board member, I am committed to advocating for the rights of women and girls, ensuring that they have equal opportunities to achieve their educational, professional, business…. and political aspirations.  My election reflects a deep commitment to the organization’s mission of building strong, inclusive communities. I am eager to collaborate with my fellow board members and CFW’s dynamic leadership to amplify the significant impact of this remarkable organization.Together, we will work to empower women and girls, and support other organizations that share our vision, ensuring that the city and surrounding areas remain places where CFW continues to transform lives and build resilient communities for all to thrive.

This is not a political endorsement. It’s a repudiation of degrading remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris and other Black women. As a Black female lawyer, I take great offense at the implication that her significant, historic achievements are based solely on her race. Perhaps it’s because her current position isn’t considered to be a “BLACK JOB”. And, neither is mine.

For those in the back of the room - Kamala Harris has a distinguished legal career, serving as a district attorney, attorney general, and senator. As a US Senator, her contributions to the judiciary, intelligence, and homeland security committees have demonstrated her commitment to justice and equality. All of her professional accomplishments have been achieved by less than 1% of women nationwide.

It's time to stop these unjustified attacks on the qualifications of Black women. And, all women, regardless of race and ethnicity, should unite against those who undermine our credentials and deny us rightful positions that we seek and are capable of performing. We have the right to be heard and to participate equally in the political arena, as well as the workplace and supply chain.Congressman Chip Roy's weak defense of his inappropriate (and false) remarks about Vice President Harris highlights the need for true diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Merit-based hiring is crucial, but DEI initiatives aim to “level the playing field” for women, Blacks, other people of color and disabled individuals, ensuring that we have equal opportunities for success.

This requires thoughtful, systematic actions - not just meaningless marketing campaigns and photos on social media. Let’s commit to supporting qualified candidates who share our values, who prioritize inclusivity, equity and diversity….and who have unquestionable character, integrity and empathy for others. By addressing deep-rooted respect, trust and communication issues with Black women, we can create a more equitable society where everyone can thrive.🇺🇸

This is BS. Let’s call a spade a spade. The new term, MEI—Merit, Excellence, Intelligence which has emerged to replace DEI  (ie, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) is a pathetic attempt by conservatives to justify their rejection of initiatives to “level the playing field”.

Here’s the problem. By focusing on merit, excellence, and intelligence, we perpetuate elitism and exclusion, reinforcing biases and marginalizing diverse individuals, particularly qualified Blacks, other people of color and women.

Whereas, DEI acknowledges the systemic discrimination of marginalized, underserved communities and disadvantaged individuals. MEI overlooks structural institutional barriers that need to be dismantled to create a level playing field.

Meritocracy falsely assumes there is currently a level playing field for everyone where success is solely determined by one’s individual abilities and efforts. However, systemic inequalities create unequal opportunities in the workplace and in business, leading to subjective, misleading assessments of so-called merit.

Before we start promoting “MEI “ and/or other new terminology, let’s critically examine the implications of the framework to ensure it promotes inclusivity and equity for all. If it doesn’t, let’s call it out and stay focused on achieving our goals.❤️

I am a CEO. I am a Lawyer.

Both are “BLACK JOBS”.

Anybody can do any job!

Just give them training, an opportunity, support  - and get the fu_k out their way.

Many Blacks and women, like me, currently have and have had jobs that were intended for “others”….which seems to be the problem with diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

It encourages organizations to consider and hire women, Blacks, other people of color and disabled individuals for all employment and contracting opportunities for which we are qualified and/or capable of performing.
